[Candidates are required to give their answer in their own words as for as practicable the figure on the right side indicates full marks.]

1. Read the following text and do the tasks. (15)

Soil is your garden's natural growing medium so it's vital for the hearth and successful growth of your plants and crops that you keep it well maintained. Soil is basically rock that's been ground down by the effects of the weather over a long period of time and made fertile by decayed organic matter (derived from dead insects and leaves). There are hundreds of different soil types but they can broadly be classified as sandy, loamy, clay, referring to their basic texture. It is the texture that affects the drainage aeration and nutrient content of the soil and you may have to take steps to improve on this in certain types of soil. Take a handful of soil and run a small amount between your forefingers and thumb. Although all soil contains varying proportions of sand, silt and clay, your reading will be able to tell the difference between the main types.

Sandy soil feels gritty when dry and even its wet particles will not stick together. Loans on the other hand can be modified in the hand when moist, but aren't at all sticky and gritty and are fairly loose when dry. Clay soil is sticky and smooth when wet, but becomes polished when rubbed and baked hard when dry. A loamy soil is a well-balanced amalgamation of sand, silt and clay which combines excellent drainage with sufficient moisture retention to assure good growing conditions for most plants. It's fairly easy to look after although loamy soils do benefit from regular applications of well-rotted organic matter to prevent getting tightly packed. The particle consistency of sandy soil doesn't hold water well with the result that plant foods are often taken away by rain before they can do any good. Again, well-rotted organic matter can be added to bind the soil particles together. Clay soil is most difficult to work usually becoming waterlogged, so they are virtually impossible to dig. Artificial drainage will probably be the first step in improving the texture of the soil and various additives will break down the structure to make. Use of its excellent food stocks. There are various methods of improving your soils texture. Essentially this requires regular applications of a well-rotted organic substance called humans which is obtained from decayed plant and animal matter (manure, compact, and seaweed each provides ample sources).

The presence of chalk in soil can also affect the growth of plants. Some prefers slightly acid (chalk-free) soils, while others grow more successfully in alkaline, chalky soils. Most fruits and vegetables however, grow better in neutral soil. Although benefiting the soil in some ways, compost, manure and fertilizers can actually add to its acidity as organisms break then down. Over-acid soils can be treated with applications of line either hydrated (slaked) line or ground limestone is your best choice.

To apply line, sprinkle it on the broken to soil and mix it lightly but doesn't dig in, leave to wash down by rain. Apply line every other year if needed be.

He is very busy composing ballads for his beloved and yearns for her attention. In the fourth stage, he is aggressive and ambitious. He seeks reputation in all that he does. He is ready to guard his country and becomes a soldier. In his fifth stage, he becomes a fair judge with maturity and wisdom. In the sixth stage, he is seen with loose pantaloons and spectacles. 6. Write an essay in about 300 words on Unemployment problem in Nepal'. [10]

The fact of a number of people not having a job is called unemployment. In other words, a person who has to pass time without having got a job to do is called an unemployed person. Unemployment is one of the most serious problems in Nepal. There are a number of educated as well as untrained people who have not got jobs.

The number of such people is growing day by day due to this the unemployment problem in Nepal is also increasing day by day. Unemployment problem is also a serious problems of developed and developing countries. So, it is necessary to identify the causes and effects of unemployment. There are many causes of unemployment problem in Nepal. First, the government has not been able to provide technical education at the school level. Second, factories and industries are not flourished well to fulfill the demand for jobs. Next, many of the people aim at only government jobs, which are not enough. Nepal is rich in agriculture, but most of the educated people do not want to work in farming and there is no adequate development of the agriculture sector. Moreover, Nepal has a lot of prospects of tourism which can provide a lot of jobs; but tourism is not developed well and satisfactorily. The frequent political disorder has also discouraged factories and companies to be developed. As a result, people have been hopeless about getting jobs in Nepal. Unemployment has a lot of bad effects in Nepal. Many young people who are energetic and educated are going to other countries to do minor jobs. As a result, our country is losing great manpower which is necessary for the country’s development. Many students who are studying in different grades have lost their belief in educational degrees. Consequently, people’s, as well as countries’ economic status, is becoming weaker. The problem of unemployment must be solved. People of all fields must do something in this regard. The government should make a policy of providing technical and practical education from the school level. This will really help the students to do some jobs in their community when they are matured. Next, tools and equipment should be provided for people to make them able to apply new farming methods. Similarly, tourism must be developed widely. The existing factories and industries should be improved and new ones should be set up to meet the changing time and context. Young people should be stopped from going to other countries and they should be engaged in some kind of jobs in our own country, Nepal. This will increase people’s living standards and indirectly more jobs will be created. The problem of unemployment is against the economic growth of people and the nation. One person’s attempt or one community’s effort or only the government’s effort is not enough to solve this terrible problem.

Everyone should do something to create jobs in the societies so that the influx of the Nepalese youths towards foreign employment is checked and the youth force is utilized in the development of the nation. The government of Nepal should pay attention to the unemployment problem and make proper and effective policy to to control and reduce unemployment problem in Nepal.
